My WordPress Experience

I took this stock image from a Google search.

I just started this blog yesterday, and I have got to say this was pretty difficult for some reason. Customizing the look of the pages wasn’t easy, I couldn’t manipulate my header image the way I wanted to, and my widgets kept moving out of place without my editing. So far, this is not a happy experience for me, but I have to keep working on it for class. I haven’t really blogged since I was 13 or 14, but I don’t really like this set up.

I named this blog RU Hard Knock because this blog is about me and my struggle to graduate from Rutgers. I’m sure everyone has encountered an RU Screw by now, and if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat because it is a doozy. But luckily, I’m finally out of SAS requirement classes and mostly working on classes for my major and minor, so I definitely enjoy class more. I just keep looking at the big picture and knowing I’ll make it out of here soon (hopefully alive not buried in my own pile of debt).

This is a stock photo i found on Google as well. This is how I see my Rutgers experience: long and dark, but there is a light at the end.

Googled SOHK and got this from someone else’s blog

Hi, your blog is amazing, because I can relate with RU struggle that you’re going through, and I’m sure many of us can. I also like the second photo you put up, of the dark tunnel. I wish you all the good luck on your journey throughout and beyond RU.

I like the black theme you’ve chose as your foundation. One think I think that can be improved is the header photo, the rose would look better if the photo had more pixels/resolution.

Hi, I actually was going for a pixelated look for a more ironic look of the concrete rose. I’m not sure I got my point across, but thanks for the suggestion.

I get what you mean about RU Screwed, not fun at all… On the bright side, your blog looks really nice, your “garage” is simple and easily accessible and you added extra pages as well.

I like the theme you used, it looks really cool! Also, I feel your pain… credits are a hard thing to get transferred here. I studied abroad and am still trying to get those credits to count..

Hey, I see that your blog is well under way. I sympathize with you running into problems setting things up. I use web tools like this a lot and it took me like an hour to figure out how to change my header text. But the more you use it the easier it gets. Your first post is a cool, genuine way to introduce users to the site. May I suggest uploading a bigger, higher quality picture for your header so that the top of your page doesn’t look as jagged.

I personally love this blog, I find it very creative and witty. I’m sure it can relate to many of us and our struggles in this arduous University. I like your cleverness and use of pictures in the blog. The picture of the tunnel is a great way to depict the experience of college to a majority of Rutgers students, and the photo of School of Hard Knocks just says it all! Although a lot of people may not understand the jagged concept of your header image it’s still a great idea. It flows with the overall concept of your blog; the rough and jagged path at Rutgers. One thing I would advise is keeping the widgets from getting too cluttered, otherwise great blog!

Hey Richanna, please make sure to fill in the information within your various pages. As it stands, this blog doesn’t tell enough about what it is or who you are. Also, all posts are required to be 300 well thought out and introspective words at the very least. This post is not of a substantial quality.

That all said, I’m glad that you are blogging again. But, look at blogging less like making a diary, and more like setting up a website. Although WordPress is a blogging platform, it’s useful – primarily – as a space to host content.
